Three masses m1 = 10 kg, m2 = 20 kg and m3 = 30 kg are connected by strings on horizontal surface and pulled by a force 60N. Find the acceleration of the system and tension in the string.

m1 = 10 kg, m2 = 20 kg, m3 = 30 kg.
Applied force, F = 60N
T1 = 10N, T2 = 30N
Using the Newton’s 2nd law of motion, we get
F + T1 – T1 + T2 – T2= (m1+m2+m3)*a
Or, 60 = 60*a
Or, a = 60/60 = 1.0 m/s^2
